next creative writing course starts soon... new project with St Gemma's...

ST GEMMA'S HOSPICE
I'm fascinated by the therapeutic potential of words - especially poetry - so I'm really excited about running creative writing sessions with staff and outpatients at St Gemma's Hospice  in Leeds from September. We'll almost certainly be using poems from the excellent collection 'The Poetry Cure', edited by Julia Darling and Cynthia Fuller, for inspiration. The late Julia Darling was a writer whose latter work in healthcare inspired a Fellowship in Creative Writing & Health at Newcastle University. Before moving to Yorkshire in 2000, I was fortunate to attend the same creative writing group as Julia for a few months. She was an inspiring writer and I'll be pleased if I can take just a little of her passion for the 'healing' power of poetry to St Gemma's.
